Junyao glazed ceramic vase, Song dynasty - Stoneware pottery modelled on Jun kiln styles, featuring a slender silhouette, a pear-shaped body, and a long, cylindrical neck that ends in a flared rim. It is covered with a thick, flux-rich, sky-blue (tianlan) opalescent glaze, which exhibits the characteristic satin sheen of Jun ware. Against the blue background, it features large splashes of purple and crimson, achieved by applying copper oxide to the glaze before firing. The base has a short, unglazed ring foot.
