White jade vessel, ‘Beast and Bird’, Qing Dynasty - Natural white jade with a smooth texture. The vessel is cylindrical and irregular in shape, with thick walls decorated with incised motifs. Upon these are various creatures carved in the round, such as a tiger and a bird perched on a rock. The piece rests on a wooden base carved with sinuous branch motifs. Qing Dynasty (1644–1912).
