White jade plaque ”Buddha Ksitigarbha”, Qing dynasty - A rectangular white Hetian jade Buddhist plaque. The front depicts ‘Ksitigarbha Buddha’, one of the Four Great Bodhisattvas, holding a large sceptre and dressed in flowing robes that cover his body. On the reverse is a verse, ‘本然清淨地 佛藏大慈尊’, part of the praise to ‘Bodhisattva Ksitigarbha’ and the sutra. It is surrounded by a wooden frame which, in turn, features a relief of lotus scrolls and clouds above. Qing Dynasty (1644–1912).
