Large silver and damasked silk covered wooden chest. 17th century Colonial. Peru or Mexico. - Adorned with impressive silver reliefs applied to the damasked silk on each face of the chest. It has a frieze at the edge of every face, decorated with small angels and flowers. The front of the upper lid is decorated with embossed silver reliefs depicting the instruments of Christ’s Passion, or “Arma Cristi”. The front can be folded out and has magnificent embossed and chased decoration of praying angels who watch over a chalice. The interior is made of carved and gilded wood, forming small pyramids. 63 x 84,5 x 41,5 cm.
