Two of the brushes represent The Stewart Dry Goods Co., a major department store in the city's history. One is constructed of light-toned wood with dark-stained incised lettering reading THE STEWART DRY GOODS CO. INCORPORATED LOUISVILLE, KY. with natural-colored bristles. The second Stewart Dry Goods brush features dark-stained wood with a rounded profile and identical incised lettering. The third item is an hourglass-shaped brush for John P. Morton & Company, a significant 19th and early 20th-century printer and stationer. This brush has a reddish-brown wood finish with gold-tone printed text that reads INCREASE YOUR SALES ó ADVERTISE ON BRUSHES along the top edge. The center text identifies the firm as John P.
