Vintage 1933 Oertel Brewing Company Shipping Crate with Lid and Dividers - 13”x21”x11” - This is a vintage shipping crate and bottle carrier manufactured for The Oertel Co. of Louisville, Kentucky. The interior identifies the manufacturer as The Mengel Co., also of Louisville, and includes a clear production date of 1933, coinciding with the end of Prohibition. The crate is constructed of wood reinforced with galvanized metal banding on the vertical corners. It features a hinged top lid with two wooden cleats and a metal latch. The interior contains a complete wooden lattice divider system designed to accommodate twenty-four small bottles. Side panels feature integrated hand-hold cutouts for transport. The front panel is stenciled with: THE OERTEL CO. INCORPORATED LOUISVILLE, KY. 2 DOZ SMALL BOTTLES CONTAINS 2 1/4 GALLONS. The interior back wall is stenciled with: PLEASE NOTIFY US WHEN EMPTY.
