Assortment of 19th and 20th-Century Newspapers and Periodicals, Including Louisville Titles and - This assortment consists of loose historical newspapers and periodicals, predominantly from the mid-to-late 19th century with a focus on Louisville, Kentucky publications. Included titles are The Daily Journal (September 19, 1864 and December 7, 1848), The Louisville Courier (September 20, 1847), The Louisville Journal (June 22, 1865), Ballou's Pictorial Drawing-Room Companion, Christian Observer (August 22, 1877), and Harper's Weekly: A Journal of Civilization (April 5, 1890). The 1890 issue of Harper's Weekly includes a cover engraving of naval personnel and a separate large-format panoramic streetscape illustration. Also present is a 20th-century supplement, The Courier-Journal & Times Magazine (May 5, 1974), featuring a special section on the April 3, 1974 tornado. The collection comprises folio-format loose sheets and folded sections, with some items housed in protective plastic sleeves. Internal text and mastheads are printed in black ink on newsprint paper.
