An Assortment of 19th and 20th Century Historical Prints and Maps including J.H. Colton and Dick - This lot consists of a collection of unframed historical prints and maps primarily from the 19th century. A central piece is a hand-colored steel-engraved map titled The City of Louisville Kentucky and The City of New Orleans Louisiana, published by J.H. Colton and Co., No. 172 William St., New York, dated 1855 and numbered No. 34. The collection also includes four distinct steel-engraved portraits of President Zachary Taylor: a full-length military scene titled Zachary Taylor at the period of his commanding in Mexico, painted by Alonzo Chappel and engraved by William Wellstood for Johnson, Fry and Co. Publishers; two oval-framed portraits with decorative borders, one published by Johnson, Fry and Co. and another half-length military portrait engraved by A.H. Ritchie from a daguerreotype and published by E. Anthony. Further inclusions are a 19th-century landscape engraving of Louisville, KY., drawn by J.W. Hill for the Ladies Repository, and a 20th-century offset lithograph by artist Dick Purkins titled Bourbon Stock Yard Livestock Exchange Building - 1915. The Purkins print features a printed signature dated 12-76 and is hand-numbered 52/1000.
