Antique Wood and Cast Iron Lap Coffee Mill, 19th Century 4”X8”X10.5” - This antique manual coffee mill or lap grinder is constructed with a square wooden base and a cast-iron grinding assembly. The base features recessed panels on the sides and a small storage drawer at the front for collecting ground material. The drawer exhibits hand-cut dovetail joints on the side walls. A cylindrical cast-iron hopper is mounted to the top of the wooden base. The mill is operated by an S-curved iron crank handle finished with a turned wooden knob. No maker's marks, brand names, or patent dates are visible on the metal or wooden surfaces. The design is typical of mid-19th century domestic kitchenware produced in the United States, resembling models manufactured by the Arcade Manufacturing Co. or Parker.
