Bidspirit auction | Antique Gray Mottled Graniteware Spittoon
Antique Gray Mottled Graniteware Spittoon 7.5”X6” - This antique spittoon, also known as a cuspidor, is constructed from stamped or pressed steel with a fused porcelain enamel coating, commonly referred to as graniteware or agateware. The exterior and interior are finished in a classic gray mottled pattern featuring a gray field with white speckling. The object is composed of a two-part construction with a wide, funnel-shaped top that directs into a bulbous, rounded reservoir base. This style of utilitarian enamelware was widely manufactured in the United States for domestic use during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. No manufacturer marks, characters, or symbols are visible on the underside of the base.
