Antique Anton Melcher Stamped Stoneware Wax Sealer Jar, Louisville, Kentucky 6.5”X11.5” - This is a cylindrical stoneware preserve jar, specifically a wax sealer form, produced by the pottery of Anton Melcher in Louisville, Kentucky. The jar features a slightly tapered shoulder and a wide, thick everted rim designed to accommodate a lid and wax seal. The vessel is finished in a rich, dark brown Albany-type slip glaze, exhibiting a characteristic salt-glaze texture with minor ”orange peel” pitting and kiln-firing artifacts such as glaze pops. A clearly legible three-line impressed maker mark is located on the shoulder, reading A. MELCHER / MAKER / LOUISVILLE KY. The piece is undecorated, focusing on the utilitarian form and regional stamp. A horizontal potting line is visible near the base from the manufacturing process. Capacity: Approximately 1 gallon.
