American Salt-Glazed Stoneware Jar, 19th Century 7”X9” - This American salt-glazed stoneware jar features a cylindrical form with a slightly thickened, rounded rim and a flat base. The body is subtly tapered towards the top and bottom. The vessel is finished with a traditional salt glaze, exhibiting a neutral grey-to-tan color and a characteristic orange peel texture. Decoration is minimal, consisting of two parallel horizontal incised lines encircling the shoulder. The interior is finished with a dark brown slip glaze. The underside is unglazed and displays concentric wire-cut marks from when the piece was removed from the potter's wheel. There are no visible maker's marks, capacity stamps, or cobalt blue decorations. This item is consistent with 19th-century stoneware production from the Mid-Atlantic or Northeastern regions of the United States.
