Gibraltar Manufacturing Company Covered Wagon Electric Clock and Lamp 5”X16”X9” - This mid-century electric novelty table clock and lamp was produced by the Gibraltar Manufacturing Company Inc. of Jersey City, New Jersey. The unit is designed in the form of a horse-drawn covered wagon mounted on a rectangular wooden base with beveled edges. The wagon features a wooden body with four silver-toned metal spoked wheels and an arched, translucent pink plastic shade secured with cord lacing. A pair of silver-toned metal horses is attached to the front of the wagon with black cord reins. An analog clock is integrated into the side of the wagon, featuring a circular dial marked GIBRALTAR and JERSEY CITY, N.J. The reverse of the clock mechanism is stamped with the manufacturer details: GIBRALTAR MFG. CO. INC. JERSEY CITY 4, N.J. 110 V. A.C. 60 C. 3 W. MADE IN U.S.A., along with an Underwriters Laboratories (UL) mark. The use of a single-digit postal zone (Jersey City 4) indicates a manufacture date prior to the 1963 implementation of ZIP codes. A rotary power switch is located on the top of the wooden base.
