New Haven Clock Co. Antique Gingerbread Wood Mantel Clock 5”X12”X19” - This antique American gingerbread or kitchen style mantel clock was manufactured by the New Haven Clock Co. in the late 19th century. The case is constructed from dark-stained wood, featuring elaborate pressed foliate, floral, and fan-shaped motifs on the arched crest and side supports. The round off-white dial displays black Roman numerals and is marked at the 6 o'clock position with the transcription: THE NEW HAVEN CLOCK CO. NEW HAVEN CONN. The dial is protected by a brass bezel with a glass cover; the bezel is stamped with patent marks that appear to read PATD MAY 11 1880. A lower hinged door features a glass panel that retains remnants of a pink and gold reverse-painted geometric and decorative design. The interior houses a mechanical, pendulum-driven movement with a coiled wire gong for the striking mechanism. A partial paper label remains adhered to the reverse of the case, identifying the New Haven Clock Co. and providing operating instructions for the strike. The clock is accompanied by a decorative brass-tone pendulum and a winding key.
