William L. Gilbert Clock Company Antique Black Wood Mantel Clock 7”X17”X11” - An antique American mantel clock manufactured by the William L. Gilbert Clock Company of Winsted, Connecticut. The case is constructed of wood with a black finish, featuring decorative faux-marbleized red and yellow pilasters and turned wooden columns with gilt capitals and bases. The lower front section of the case displays gilt-stenciled scrollwork. The clock is elevated on four ornate cast-metal foliate feet and features cast-metal lion-head ring handles on the side panels. The ornate gilt-metal dial contains a central floral scrollwork motif and a cream-colored chapter ring with black Arabic numerals. The name GILBERT is printed at the bottom center of the dial. There are two winding arbors positioned at the 4 and 8 o'clock marks and a small adjustment arbor above the 12 o'clock position flanked by the letters S and F. The clock contains a mechanical, spring-driven 8-day movement with a pendulum and a strike mechanism that strikes on a wire coil gong.
