American Late Victorian Wood Mantel Clock with Mercury Style Pendulum 4”X12”X22” - An American Late Victorian architectural mantel clock, dating to the late 19th century. The wooden case features a medium-tone finish and is designed in the Eastlake style, characterized by a trellis-style X pediment, vertical fluting on the side pilasters, and incised scrollwork on the stepped base. The front access door contains a glass tablet with a reverse-painted geometric and foliate design in black, gold, and pink pigments. The circular cream dial features black Arabic numerals, a railroad-style outer minute track, and two winding arbors for a mechanical spring-driven movement. The upper edge of the metal dial bezel is stamped PAT DEC 11 1878. The clock is equipped with ornate blackened steel hands and a decorative mercury-style pendulum bob featuring a central polished cylinder flanked by two brass-toned columns. The internal strike mechanism utilizes a wire gong. The reverse of the clock consists of a plain wood panel without a manufacturer label.
