Antique Waterbury Clock Co. Ogee Weight-Driven Shelf Clock 5”X16”X26” - An antique American ogee (O.G.) shelf clock manufactured by the Waterbury Clock Company of Waterbury, Connecticut. The rectangular case is constructed of wood with mahogany veneers and features the characteristic S-curve ogee moldings. The front door is divided into two sections: an upper clear glass pane and a lower eglomisé (reverse-painted) glass tablet. The lower panel depicts two children in a landscape setting, enclosed within a stylized geometric and floral border in gilt, black, and red. The square painted metal dial features Roman numerals, scrolling black corner spandrels, and a central monogram for the Waterbury Clock Company (WCC). The interior houses a brass, one-day, weight-driven mechanical movement with a strike function on a coiled wire gong. Two cast-iron weights and pendulum components are included. The back of the case retains a paper manufacturer's label titled ONE-DAY STRIKE. O. G. WEIGHT. which lists the company's name and agent offices in New York, Chicago, and Glasgow. A secondary instructional paper label is partially preserved on the interior backboard.
