Speaking Dog Mechanical Bank Reproduction - This is a modern cast iron mechanical bank produced as a reproduction of the late 19th-century Speaking Dog design originally patented by Shepard Hardware. The bank is constructed from painted cast iron and features a seated girl in a yellow dress next to a white spotted dog with black ears. The base is finished in dark green with red and yellow trim. The front of the base features the embossed text SPEAKING DOG in yellow-painted lettering, and the side is embossed with the word BANK. The underside is cast with the word CHINA and is secured with a modern Phillips-head screw. A circular black plastic coin trap plug is present on the bottom. The bank is operated by a lever located behind the dog; when depressed, the girl's arm moves forward to deposit a coin and the dog's mouth opens.
