Canaan or the Land of Promise, Bible Map by Moxon, 1714 - This attractive and detailed Bible map titled ”Canaan or the Land of Promise” was engraved by Joseph Moxon in 1714. It depicts the Holy Land as it appeared during the time of Jesus Christ, stretching from the Mediterranean Sea to the Jordan River. The map illustrates key Biblical locations, with the route of the Apostle Paul’s voyage to Rome and scenes of significant events such as the birth of Christ in Bethlehem and the Ascension of Jesus. The map is adorned with a large decorative title cartouche flanked by allegorical figures. This copperplate-engraved map, coloured by hand, was created as part of Moxon's Bible publication, based on the original work of Nicolas Visscher from 1642. Joseph Moxon, known for his expertise in mathematical instruments and maps, was a prominent figure in 17th-century English cartography.
