The map divides Sicily into its three provinces—Demona, Noto, and Maraza—and is based on earlier cartography by Nicolas Sanson. It is a decorative map, with intricate cartouches for the title and scale, enhancing its visual appeal. The original hand colouring brings out the geographical features of the island in vivid detail, while the map’s design reflects the artistic and cartographic trends of the time.
