Scarce 17th Century Prospect of Demonte by Johannes Blaeu, c. 1682, Superb Colour - A scarce 17th-century prospect of Demonte, titled ”Demontium”, by Johannes Blaeu. This detailed print shows the town of Demonte in the Piedmont region, with a prominent view of the Forte Madonna della Consolata, built in 1590 to protect the Colle Fauniera pass from French incursions. The map was drawn by Juvenal Boetto in 1666 and published in the fifth and final volume of Blaeu's Townbooks of Italy, 'Sabaudia Velocis Justitiae et Mavortiae Virtutis Antiqua Sedes', after Blaeu's death. The map features exquisite original colour, with armorials highlighted in gold. Published by the Heirs of Johannes Blaeu in Amsterdam in 1682 size: 46.5 x 62 cm (18.31 x 24.41 inches). Condition: A little toning of paper in the margins, but the colour remains vibrant and well-preserved.
