Bellum Denunciandi Ratio by De Bry grand voyages - This engraving, titled Bellum DenunciandiRatio, presents a scene in which arrows are planted along the borders of public roads by the Timucua people to indicate the need for fixing and maintaining roads after a war. The engraving, based on Jacques Le Moyne’s original watercolours from his experiences in Florida during the 1560s, was later published by Theodor de Bry in 1591 as part of the Grand Voyages series. These engravings are among the earliest known European visual records of Native American life and customs.
