Tractate Chulin with Rashi’s commentary, ancient manuscript with important textual variations!
Sections of the Babylonian Talmud Tractate Chulin (2 leaves) and 3 additional leaves of the Rashi commentary on this tractate.
These manuscript fragments are dated to the late 14th or early 15th century (c.1400). The edges of the pages are damaged and torn, and there is slight moth damage.
These leaves are part of a manuscript that apparently consisted of the entire tractate Chulin and Rashi’s commentary (separately). Three fragments of this manuscript have survived: the end of Chapter 5 of the mishna and some of the gemara on the beginning of page 78a and the beginning of 78b. An additional fragment consists of the gemara for page 80a (line 11 to line 30). Compared to the printed version, these gemara sections include important and significant textual variations.
In addition, the sections of the Rashi commentary are on Chapter 4 (page 68a from the middle of “l’olam” to 68b, “chad”; 69a “mahu”). There are also textual variations in the Rashi commentary, with a completely different paragraph that was used by the achronim to solve issues that arose in their study of other versions.
