Responsa of Rabbi Joseph Colon (The Maharik). First Edition. Venice 1519. One of the Leading Books of Responsa.

The Responsa of the Maharik is one of the most important and influential Halachic works.

R' Colon's decisions had a tremendous impact on the development of Halachah, particularly in the Ashkenazi world, as reflected in R' Moses Isserles' glosses on the Shulchan Aruch,

Rabbi Joseph Colon, son of Rabbi Solomon, was born in France, ca. 1420 and passed away in Italy, 1480. In the early 1450's he moved from Chambéry to Piedmont, and eventually became the decisive Halachic authority in Italy prior to the Expulsion from Spain. The Maharik’s rulings were widely disseminated throughout Jewish communities and are quoted by many ‘Acharonim’ in their Halachic decisions. Rabbi Ovadia MiBartenura, author of the famed Bartenura commentary on the Mishna, was one of the Maharik's foremost disciples.
