Mekor Chayim. Mantua 1559. Super-Commentary to Ibn Ezra on the Chumash.
Super-commentary by the 14th century Spanish philosopher Rabbi Shmuel Zarza, (ibn Seneh). The work deals mainly with understanding the ibn Ezra's interpretation of biblical verses, and with the understanding of the reasons behind the mitzvot according to the works of Maimonides. Includes an exposition of most of Moreh Nevuchim.
R' Zarza recounts in his introduction to this work the suffering of the Jews of Castile due to the civil war between Dom Pedro, Duke of Coimbra, and his brother Henry the Navigator. It is known that ten thousand Jews lost their lives in Toledo alone.
Mantua 1559. Meir b. Ephraim of Padua & Jakob b. Naphtali haCohen of Gazolo. 130 leaves. 32 cm. Overall good condition. Mold stains on a few leaves.
