Shut Rabbeinu Nissim Girondi [the Ran]. Rome, [1545-6]
First edition of a Sefer Yesod. One of the important Shut books by Rabboteinu the Rishonim, in one line with Teshuvot HaRashba, Teshuvot HaRosh and Teshuvot HaTashbetz.

This first edition is based on a single manuscript, as indicated by Rabbi Yitzchak de Lattes, in his gloss on response 2: "כאשר מצאנו בספר ההעתק שהיה יחיד בעולמו' (Rabbi Yitzchak was renowned for the lengthy Psak he wrote at the beginning of the first edition of Sefer Hazohar in 1558, permitting to print the Zohar, which until then, people feared to print).

Rabbeinu the Ran: one of the first leading rabbis of Spain, the famed commentator on the Rif. Wrote Chidushim on the Talmud, a commentary on Masechet Nedarim and sermons. His disciple, the Ribash, wrote of him: 'דעתו רחבה מני ים, ושכלו זך וישר, אין ערוך אליו בכל חכמי ישראל' (Shut HaRibash Siman 375).

Rome, [1545]. First edition.
174, [33] pp. 19.5 cm. Very good condition. Some small, bright brown stains; except for this, this is a fine copy. Bright, quality paper.
