Historical Document - the Ketubah of Mara DeAra Yisrael Maran the Gaon Rabbi Yosef Chaim Sonnenfeld. Jerusalem, [1927] - This is a unique historical item - the Ketubah of Mara DeAra Yisrael Maran the Gaon Rabbi Yosef Chaim Sonnenfeld from his second marriage to Mrs. Cheila.  His first wife, Sarah, was the daughter of Rabbi Shlomo Zeltzer, a Shochet and Bodek of Kobersdorf. She passed away in 1919. She bore him eight sons and three daughters.  Of his eleven children, eight passed away in his lifetime. His eldest son, who was named after his father, passed away as an infant in Hungary, before he immigrated to Eretz Yisrael. In one of the violent epidemics that broke out in Jerusalem, he lost two of his sons, a daughter-in-law and a grandson.  His second wife, Cheila, was thirty years younger than him [!].  She passed away in 1958 (at the age of ninety) - she was the daughter of Rabbi Mendel Deutsch, a Dayan in Topoľčany and was previously married to Yehuda Leib Eibenschitz. Her daughter from her first marriage was Leah, the wife of Rabbi Chaim Zeev Finkel, the Rosh Yeshiva of Heichal Hatalmud and the spiritual supervisor of the Mir Yeshiva of Jerusalem.  With stamps of the Beit Din of the Ashkenazic community of Jerusalem.  The witnesses who signed the Ketubah: Rabbi Alexander Goldstein and Rabbi Moshe Halevi Walles.  Rabbi Yosef Chaim Sonnenfeld (1848-1932) : was the first Rav of HaEidah HaChareidit of Jerusalem.  Jerusalem, [1927].  [1] leaf. Approx. 42 cm. Very good condition. Fold lines. Some stains. Some tears along the edges. The Ketubah was written on large and fine paper with printed gilt illustrations, decorations and lettering.  Unique historical item!
