Seder Hayom by the Mekubal Rabbi Machir. Venice, [1599]. First Edition in the Author's Lifetime - Rare and invaluable: the first edition of the Modeh Ani prayer. The sacred book Seder Hayom was accepted as a guide for Avodat Hatefillah and for Avodat Hashem and was favored by leading Chassidic rabbis and Mekubalim.  Sefer Seder Hayom, Dinim and Hanhagot, by a man's daily schedule on the days of the week, Sabbath and Moadim, with a commentary on the prayers by the Gaon and Mekubal Rabbi Moshe ben Machir of Safed, who is referred to the by the title page of this book as ”the Divine and complete Sage the Chassid Rabbi Moshe ben Machir Reish Metivta in Ein Zeitun of Safed”.  Printed at the end of the book is a commentary on the Mishnah ”Ben Chamesh Shanim Lemikra” and an elucidation on the book of Kohelet.  The work, as indicated by its title, deals with daily customs, from the time one gets up till he goes to sleep, for all days of the year including Sabbath and Moadim. Part of the customs are based on Kabbalah. The work was accepted by all Jewish communities so much so that it is considered a Bar Samcha for all things pertaining to versions of Dinim and customs.  This book is the source of varied customs; among others, it is the first to introduce the version of the Modeh Ani prayer which is said every morning.  Promise for success, longevity and offspring! In his introduction, the author promises success, longevity and offspring to those who follow the customs of the book.  The author, Rabbi Moshe ibn Machir:  One of the leading Geonim and Mekubalim of Safed in the generation of the disciples of the Ari and the Beit Yosef.Served as Rosh Yeshiva of the Ein Zeitun village near Safed. This yeshiva is known from other sources as the Hesger (implying the purpose of the Beit Midrash - a place where students can study Torah quietly far from the noise of the city). . In 1482, Rabbi Yosef of Trani (eventually the Rav of Kushta, author of Shut Maharit) studied at the Yeshiva of Ein Zeitun.
