Beit Chorin Passover Haggadah - with a Commentary by the Alshich Hakadosh, the Maharal and Rabbi Shlomo Ephrtaim of Luntschitz. Metz, [1767]. First Edition - Apparently, the First Haggadah that was Printed in France - Passover Haggadah with three commentaries by leading rabbis: Peirush Alshich, Gevurot Hashem (Maharal) and Olelot Ephraim.  At the beginning of the Haggadah, approbation by Gedol Hador Rabbi Aryeh Leib, the author of the Shaagat Aryeh, who said of the printer, Rabbi Moshe May: ”משה עלה למרום במעלות בית חורין..”.  Inside the Haggadah, there are many leaves with fine copper-engraved illustrations of scenes from the Haggadah. These engravings appear also in later editions that were published in Amsterdam, Lviv and Dhyrenfurth.  Inspired by this Haggadah, a Haggadah titled Ma'aleh Beit Chorin was printed in Amsterdam in 1781 (shortly after the customary 12 year prohibition on reprinting the Haggadah, so as not to violate the first printer's rights).   This Haggadah is apparently the first one that was printed in France - There were Haggadot that were printed in Amsterdam in the 17th century with similar engravings; however, this is the first time it was titled Beit Chorin.  This copy is without the map that was printed at the end of the Haggadah with the journeys of Bnei Yisrael and the engravings of the Menorah of the Temple and its vessels.  Metz, [1767].  [2], 64 leaves - without the map. 22 cm. Very good condition. Wine stains on seme leaves, from the Haggadah being used on Leil Haseder. Ancient binding.  Yudlov, Otzar Hahaggadot 251 .
