Krakow, [1604] - Rare edition of the Talmud - one of the first that was printed in Eastern Europe in the 17th century.  Talmud Bavli Masechet Sotah of the Krakow, [1604] edition. ”One virtue is that its editing was based on Talmud books that were edited by Gedolei Hador... another is that we have added and taken important people to study what needs to be corrected... before it was given to be printed” - from the printers' words on the title page.  Books printed in Krakow are extremely rare since most of them were burnt and destroyed in Pogroms in Poland.  On the title page, a signature. In addition, on the page following the title page, several additional unidentified signatures. On leaf 28, the signature of Shimon ben Yosef of Holešov (the town of the Shach).  Krakow, [1604]. Yitzchak Prostitz .  50 leaves. 31 cm.  good-very good overall condition. Brown stains on the spine and the margins of the leaves.
