Sefat Emet Veleshon Zehorit. Altona, [1752] - First edition of a rare polemic book.  An especially sharp article written by Rabbi Yaakov Emden against Rabbi Yehonatan Eibeschitz. Includes a copying of the amulets attributed to Rabbi Yehonatan Eibeschitz  and Rabbi Yaakov Emden's proof that they are based on Sabbateanism.  Rabbi Yaakov Yisrael ben Zvi Ashkenazi Emden (1698-1776) : one of the leading rabbis of the 18th century. The son of Rabbi Zvi Hirsch Ashkenazi who was known as the Chacham Zvi. Refused to hold a rabbinic position his entire life. Rabbi Yaakov Emden was one of the leaders of the campaign against Sabbateanism. Against this background, a bitter dispute arose between him and Rabbi Yehonatan Eibeschitz, who studied Kabbalah and was known as an amulet-writer. When Rabbi Yaakov Emden studied some of these amulets, he claimed that they imply a belief in Shabtai Zvi. Rabbi Emden openly accused Rabbi Yehonatan of being a Sabbatean, which led to a continuous, bitter dispute between his supporters and Rabbi Emden's. Rabbi Yaakov Emden also wrote sharply against Rabbi Moshe Chaim Luzzatto (the Ramchal) and many others.  First edition. Altona, [1752].  34 leaves. With the folding leaf. Excellent condition.
