Ashkenazic Manuscript of Sefer Etz Chaim by Rabbi Chaim Vital. Vilna, apparently from the 18th Century - These are 180 handwritten pages in Ashkenazic script, apparently from the 18th century of a copying of the second section of Sefer Etz Chaim authored by Rabbi Chaim Vital. On the last leaf of the manuscript, at its end, the copyist wrote his name: Zvi Hirsch ben Rabbi Yonah Katz of Vilna.  Varied ownership notations in Ashkenazic script on the flyleaves at the beginning and end of the book.  Fine, handwritten title page with a border and geometrical writing.  Etz Chaim is the title of a work that deals with the Kabbalah of the Ari. The book was written by Rabbi Chaim Vital, who was a leading disciple of the Ari and who wrote down the Ari's Kabbalistic doctrine as he heard it from him. The book introduced a new Kabbalistic doctrine and greatly affected Jewish thought and especially, the movements of the Mekubalim and Chassidut.  Fine and clear Ashkenazic script.  [1], 180 leaves. 20.5 cm.
