Discovery! Kuntres by the Gaon the Maharzach the Author of the Bigdei Kehuna and the Son of Rabbeinu Shlomo Hacohen Av Beit Din of Tziltz - Letter with a halachic question by the Gaon Rabbi Meshulam Zalman Hacohen Av Beit Din of Furth and the author of the Bigdei Kehuna, the Maharzach, handwritten by his son the Gaon Rabbi Shlomo Hacohen Av Beit Din of Tziltz. And with the son's response to his father's question. About Birkat Cohanim of a Cohen who is the prayer leader on Yamim Noraim. A sharp halachic Pilpul! The Kuntres begins with a copying of the Maharzach's questions by his son, Rabbi Shlomo ”... I have been asked by the Gaon [my father] Maharzach...” Later, the lengthy response of the son, Rabbi Shlomo Hacohen Av Beit Din of Tziltz, appears.  This question by the Maharzach was published in his book Shut Beigdei Kehuna (Orach Chaim Siman 2). Here, however, is a discovery and a wonderful completion of his son's lengthy response to his question . The text of the question and the beginning of the son's response does not appear here and was auctioned in the past (see: Pninim Chemda Gnuza auction 2, lot 10). Possibly, an additonal leaf is missing from the Kuntres.  A wonderfully sharp Kuntres of an halachic Pilpul indicating vast knowledge of Hiclhot Cohanim, by the two great Cohanim, father and son, Rabbeinu Meshulam Zalman and Rabbi Shlomo HaCohanim, who were leading contemporary rabbis of Ashkenza! The Gaon and Mekubal Rabbi Meshulam Zalman Hacohen of Furth, the author of Bigdei Kehuna (1739-1820) : one of the leading rabbis in the time of the Noda BiYehuda and the Hafla'ah. Was born in Ravitsh, Poland, to his father Rabbi Shlomo, who passed away when Rabbi Meshulam was only four. Was  a leading disciple of Rabbeinu Yehonatan Eibeschitz and received his Hora'ah Semich from him.  Rabbeinu served as Rav of Krotshin, Kempno and Tziltz. In 1789, he moved to Furth and after a while, was appointed Rav of the city. Was one of Gedolei Hador who had many disciples (for a list of dozens of rabbis who were his disciples, see: Hayeshiva Harama Befiorda, section II, under his entry). Had vast knowledge of Torat Hanistar and his book Mishan Hamayim was favored by Rabbi Yitzchak Isaac Weiss, the Chakal Yitzchak of Spinka, who ordered to reprint it. Authored the book Shut Bigdei Kehuna. His sermons were published by his disciple in the book Sha'ar Hazkeinim. His son was the famed Gaon Rabbi Shlomo Hacohen Av Beit Din of Tzilitz.  The writer, the famed Gaon Rabbi Shlomo Hacohen Av Beit Din fo Tziltz (1769-1824) : an important contemporary rabbis, a famed and sharp Gaon, the son and disciple of the Gaon Rabbi Meshulam Zalman Hacohen Av Beit Din of Furth. Served as Rav of Shneituch and Mergentheim (Germany) and eventually, Tziltz (Silesia-Poland).  He became Rav of Tziltz after Rabbeinu Yaakov Eiger could not accept the position, as the leaders of the Tziltz community wrote in a letter to Rabbi Shlomo, inviting him to be there Rav instead (published in Hama'or, Tishrei-Cheshvan 2006, pp. 54-56).  Rabbeinu corresponded on halachic matters with Gedolei Hador, and they responded with reverence (see Shut Tiferet Zvi Yoreh Deah Siman 57 and more). Seeveral responses from him were publsihed in his father's book (Shut Bigdei Kehuna Orach Chaim Siman 7; Even HaEzer Siman 11). Rabbeinu's works were rejuvenated in recent years and are gradually being published. For the time being, his Chidushim on the Torah and Moadim were published in a book titled Batei Hanefesh (Jerusalem, 2016-2017) which is based on his manuscripts that are in the libraries of Frankfurt and Prague. Rabbeinu's son, the Gaon Rabbi Meshulam Zalman, who was born about a year before his passing, was one of the greatest Darshanim of Germany in his time, Av Beit Din of Shverin and the son-in-law of the Mahari Ettlinger, the author of the Aruch Laner.  4 leaves. 8 large written pages.
