Magnificant Set of Ornaments for a Sefer Torah Made of Silver, Gilded Silver and Gemstones. Portugal, the 20th Century. Hallmarked. - Impressive set of a Torah crown, finials and breastplate, made of silver and gilded silver, inlaid with gemstones.  The crown and finials were designed in an Italian style, with the tall pair of finials can be placed on two bases in the center of the crown, like the custom of Italian communities.  The three items were decorated by the artist with gilt elements shaped as plants and motifs of ancient Jewish tradition such as the Tablets of the Law, the Menorah, the Cohen's garments and the Choshen. Inlaid in every Choshen are 12 color gemstones.  The items of the set are matching and hallmarked.  Tashmishei Kedusha are an inseparable part of the daily life of the believing Jew. They are not only traditional artifacts but also meaningful symbols representing the deep connection between man and his Creator. Tashmishei Kedusha are used to express Kudusha and Hidur, for observing the Jewish festivals and keeping the Jewish tradition.  This set of Torah scroll ornaments was commissioned and donated by the famous Jewish-American philanthropist - Zalman Chaim (Sanford C.) Bernstein (1926 – January 6, 1999) - a Jewish-American businessman and philanthropist who donated to Jewish organizations around the world, and founded, among others, the Tikva Foundation and the Avi Chai Foundation. Size:   Torah crown: Height - 25 cm. Diameter - 25 cm.  Finials: Height - 41 cm.  Breastplate: Height - 32 cm. Width - 24 cm.  Total weight: 4,400 gr. (4.4 kg.) Most impressive set from the 20th century.
