Anti-Semitic Beer Jug: Johann Korzilius, Germany, 1893 - Beer jug with anti-Semitic scenes, designed by Johann Korzilius of Köln-Ehrenfeld. Germany, 1893.  Ceramic jug; ceramic and pewter lid. Signed on the bottom: ”Musterschutz”. Embossed on the jug are four anti-Semitic scenes in two transverse stripes. Appearing in the upper transverse stripe are three scenes:  The first depicts a farmer and his plow with three Jews on it and the inscription: ”This plow would not have been so heavy if Aron, Jonas and Hirsch were not sitting on it”.  The second scene depicts a manual-laborer with the inscription: ”We labor for such meager wages, yet Cohen reaps the profit”.  The third scene depicts two Jews pickpocketing a third man sleeping under a tree.  Appearing between the stripes is a long German sentence reading ”It is written in the Talmud: 'only Jews are human; the other nations are like animals” and ”The gold of idolators is for us and first-come, first-served”.  Appearing in the lower transverse stripe is a detailed scene depicting the future expulsion of the Jews from Germany accompanied by varied anti-Semitic texts: ” Great joy and happiness, Germany is free of Jews! ”, ”To Palestine” and more. A house appears in the backdrop with the following inscription on its wall: ” A German house! No Jews allowed ”.  Appearing on the lid of the jug are five portraits of prominent anti-Semitic figures of the second half of the 19th century.  Height: 22 cm.
