Cast Bronze Hanukkah Menorah. Germany the 19th Century - Bronze Chanukkiya decorated with a picture of The Disputation of Paris. Designed as a neoclassical gate. This Chanukkiya is an old replica of an early Italian Hanukkah Menorah from the 16th century which appears in the catalog of the Stieglitz Family Collection: see - Stieglitz Collection: Masterpieces of Jewish Art, The Israel Museum, Jerusalem, 1987, Catalog 133.   Bronze Menorahs of the 14th-17th centuries, Gothic, Renaissance and neoclassical style, from Northern Italy, France and Germany are extremely rare. The casting technique, their quality, the intricacies of the designs, and the remnants of gilding suggest that they were created using early molds and served as sources for the reproduction of many other Menorahs.  The Disputation of Paris , also known as the Trial of the Talmud, took place in June 12, 1240 at the court of King Louis IX of France. During the trial, the Jews were accused that the Talmud it contained blasphemies against the Christian religion and the Christians. The trial resulted in the burning of the Talmud.
