Tefilla LeMoshe. Salonika, 1563. First Edition. - A fine copy of one of the rare books by Rabbi Moshe Almosnino. Sermons on the greatness of the Torah and the order of the Shema recitation before bed, by Rabbi Moshe Almosnino. In the colophon, the printer Yosef Yaabetz refers to the printing of the Talmud in his press at that time: ”May He who has granted us to complete [this work], grant us to complete the entire Talmud which we have begun.” A fine copy with wide margins. On the last page, there is a note in a foreign (non-Hebrew) language written in an ancient handwriting. On the title page and in other places, there are stamps reading: ”Library of Rabbi Michael Berzan, Chelsea, Mass.” The author, Rabbi Moshe Almosnino [circa 1515–1580]: One of the sages of Salonika (Thessaloniki), rabbi of two communities there. He studied Torah at the yeshiva of Rabbi Yosef Taitatzak. He was a renowned preacher as well as a prominent halachic authority. He attempted to unify the divided communities in Salonika. In the year 1566, he traveled to Constantinople to petition the Turkish sultan on behalf of the Jews of Salonika. He also authored the books Pirkei Moshe, Ma'amatz Koach, and others. Salonika, 1563.
