Signatures and Dedications on the Title Page - The first Shut book that was published in its author's lifetime and on his initiative - one of the most well-known contemporary Poskei Halacha and Meishivim, and one of the first Shut books by the Acharonim that was published. Daniel Bomberg Press. This copy contains leaves 165-8 and leaves 298-9, which according to Sefer Hazikuk ”should be ripped”. Rabbi Binyamin Ze'ev of Arta: Famed for his important book - Shut Rabbi Binyamin. Was born in Arta, Greece in ca. 1475. Studied Torah under the leading contemporary Greek rabbis, including his uncle, Rabbi Caleb. Was involved in several halachic polemics, the common thread between them being his lenient Psak Halacha in these cases although his contemporaries thought a Kulah was impossible. One of these famed controversies was the dispute regarding the Agunah of Moshe Sussi, whom Rabbi Binyamin permitted to remarry based on the testimony of a gentile speaking innocently. Corresponded with many contemporary rabbis, mainly the sages of Salonika and Italy. His son-in-law was Rabbi Shmuel Kalai, the author of Shut Mishpatei Shmuel (Venice, 1659). About this book.
