By.the Gaon Rabbi Yitzchak Abuhav (1433–1493); a great scholar in Talmud, Halacha, Kabbalah, and philosophy. Referred to as “the last of the Geonim of Castile, ” to distinguish him from Rabbi Yitzchak Abuhav, author of Menorat HaMaor. Rabbi Abuhav headed a yeshiva in the city of Toledo during the generation of the Spanish Expulsion. His teacher was Rabbi Yitzchak Canpanton. Among his students were Rabbi Yaakov Berav, Rabbi Avraham Zacuto, and Rabbi Yitzchak Abarbanel. The synagogue named “Abuhav” in Tzfat is in honor of Rabbi Yitzchak Abuhav, the Castilian Gaon and author of the present work. It contains an ancient Torah scroll traditionally attributed to Rabbi Yitzchak Abuhav himself, around which many folk traditions have developed. He is cited numerous times by Maran Rabbi Yosef Karo in his work Beit Yosef on Orach Chaim, often in highly laudatory terms, such as “Our great teacher Rabbi Yitzchak Abuhav.” Early ownership inscriptions.
