Small Prayer Book in a Lovely Silver Binding. Russia, 19th century. - Dimensions: 9x12 cm. Hallmarked. A hand-made, high-quality piece of silversmithing. Both sides of the binding are embellished with ornate foliate elements, formed through delicate, high-quality chasing. In the center of the front and back covers are two rampant lions holding a crowned shield. In the center of the front shield are engraved the letters 'Shin' 'Aleph' 'Hey', the initials of the binding's owner. The binding is fitted with a wide, thick silver clasp, embellished with engraved and relief designs, and stamped with 19th-century Russian silver marks. The binding contains a small Hebrew prayer book, the ”Siddur Sefat Emet Ha-Chadash”, according to Sephardic custom, printed in Warsaw, 1926. An impressive silver binding. A fine collector's piece.
