Item Overview

Description:

Miniature Chumash – Sabbioneta 1554
Copy with Tehillah LeDavid

Chumash, printed by Tobia Foa in Sabbioneta, 1554 (שי"ד).

Includes open and closed parashot according to Rambam, precisely preserving omissions and additions. Printed without vowel points, intentionally resembling a Torah scroll. The volume concludes with a colophon and a table of weekly Torah readings for the year’s festivals.

On leaf B is an ownership inscription: “LeHaVaH, the young Achi’im S.T.” — the signature of the eminent Rabbi Avraham Chai Musafia, son of Rabbi Chaim Yitzchak, Av Beit Din of Ishpelatro. He authored Tehillah LeDavid on Psalms (Livorno 1867); some of his novellae also appeared in his father’s work Chaim VeChesed (Livorno 1844).

Additional ownership inscription at the end of Parashat Vezot HaBerachah: “…small monetary acquisition, young Sin and Tin, Shmuel Plasas 1756…” The book contains manuscript glosses throughout.

238 leaves, plus [2] leaves (last leaf of the reading schedule missing). 9.5 cm. Pocket edition. Good condition; some staining; tear with partial loss at the top of the title page affecting the title and text on the verso, restored with paper; upper page trims slightly encroach on text in a few leaves; attractive early leather binding.
