Shu”t Rabbi Yitzchak Bar Sheshet. Rivo Di Trento, 1749. “Ki Talmidei HaRivash Anu uMeimav Anu Shotim” (Beit Yosef)  Shu”t (Responsa) of Rabbi Yitzchak Bar Sheshet (HaRivash), printed in Rivo Di Trento, 1749. The first edition was originally published in Constantinople in installments over 47 weeks (1656–1657). The present copy is the first complete edition bound as a single volume. The book contains several handwritten glosses, including one lengthy, slightly smudged and trimmed gloss, as well as several unidentified early notations. Rabbi Yitzchak Bar Sheshet (1590–1672), one of the greatest halachic authorities of his generation, represents the transition from the era of the Rishonim to the early Acharonim. Born in Barcelona, he served as rabbi in several Spanish communities before fleeing Christian persecution to North Africa, where he established and led thriving Jewish communities. His vast responsa (618 in total) cover nearly all areas of Jewish law and remain foundational, cited extensively in the Shulchan Aruch, Rema, and Beit Yosef. The high esteem in which he was held is reflected in the words of Rabbi Yosef Karo, author of the Shulchan Aruch: ”For we are students of the Rivash and drink from his teachings; who is greater as a teacher in Israel, and may we merit to understand his words and their depths, and how could one dare to dispute them?” (Shu”t Beit Yosef, Ketubot 2). 318 [2] , 319-415 [9] leaves, good condition;  stains, minor, professional restorations, one page with tiny paper reinforcement at the margin; attractive half-leather binding.
