”Yesod HaEmunah” – Derashos HaRan, Venice 1596. Rare, Early Edition. - Derashos HaRan, containing twelve discourses rich in the fundamentals of Jewish faith and belief, attributed to Rabbeinu Nissim ben Reuven Gerondi (“the Ran”). Printed in Venice, 1596. Early edition. On the final leaf are novellae in ancient handwriting. Title page bears handwritten ownership inscriptions, including: “...Aharon Moshe, son of the Rabbi, Rabbi Asher Sterser of Reuss...”. This is far more than a conventional collection of sermons. The work contains profound foundations of faith, Divine service, and fear of Heaven, and is cited in the sacred work Toldot Yaakov Yosef as well as by other leading disciples of the holy Baal Shem Tov. The author, Rabbi Nissim ben Reuven Gerondi (“the Ran”) (c. 1320–1376), was one of the greatest Torah authorities and halachic decisors of all generations. Born in Barcelona, he established a major center of Torah learning there. Among his most celebrated works is his commentary on the Rif, printed alongside numerous editions of the Talmud. Renowned throughout the Jewish world, he responded to halachic inquiries from distant communities across many lands. His distinguished disciples included Rabbi Isaac ben Sheshet. The Ran’s discourses contain profound theological insights similar to that of leading Hasidic masters. 90 leaves. Condition: Fair.
