Bayis Ne'eman, Venice, 1621. Single and rare edition. - Impressive Copy of Bayis Ne'eman — Discourses on Torah, Avodah, and Gemilus Chassadim, by Rabbi Yitzchok ben Moshe of the Biga family. Printed by Pietro and Lorenzo Bragadini, Venice, 1621. Single edition. Complete copy. The work is divided into three sections: ~ First section, corresponding to the Kodesh HaKodoshim — the section on Torah. ~ Second section, corresponding to the Azarah — the section on Avodah. ~ Third section, corresponding to the Heichal — discourses on Gemilus Chassadim and Tzedakah. Rabbi Yitzchok Biga, one of the sages of Salonika, was the brother of the gaon Rabbi Yehudah Biga, author of Malchei Yehudah. He served as preacher and disseminator of Torah in the city of Nikopoli. In his introduction, the author recounts his experiences and the circumstances that led him to print the work: “And since there were but very few books in the city, for they had all been consumed when Hashem burned the city, and its streams were turned to pitch... and seeing that the city was desolate and devastated... and the commentaries were not to be found in my possession... I gathered from the sheaves... and committed them to writing as a memorial...” The author, who wandered among various communities, details at length in his fascinating introduction the turbulent course of his life. The volume includes a unique historical sermon delivered for the construction of the synagogue and Beis HaMedrash in the city of Nikopol — a city in which Maran the Beis Yosef had previously served.
