On the title page appears the author's inscription in his own handwriting, dated 25 Kislev 5694 [1933]. The inscription was written while he was still a young avreich, only 28 years old; the work itself had been composed approximately two years earlier, when he was just 26 years old. It received the praise of the leading sages of the generation and enthusiastic approbations from Rabbi Chaim Ozer Grodzenski, Rabbi Avrohom Yitzchok HaKohen Kook, and Rabbi Avrohom Dov Shapiro, author of Devar Avraham—an exceptionally rare distinction for an author of such a young age. In later editions, the approbations of Rav Kook and the Devar Avraham were omitted. The gaon Rabbi Yitzchok Hutner (1906–1980), one of the foremost roshei yeshivah and disseminators of Torah in the United States in the last generation. Born in Warsaw, he studied at the Slabodka Yeshivah and later immigrated to Eretz Yisroel with part of the yeshivah when it relocated to Chevron. In 1935 he emigrated to New York and subsequently became Rosh Yeshivah of Yeshivas Rabbeinu Chaim Berlin, where he taught thousands of students and exerted a profound influence on the world of Torah and postwar Orthodox Judaism. His philosophical writings were collected in the renowned series Pachad Yitzchok, regarded to this day as one of the foundational works of Jewish thought in recent generations. Yoselovitz Press.
