Koheles Dovid, by the holy Rebbe Rabbi Dovid of Tolna. First edition. Lublin, 1882. - Koheles Dovid — Commentaries on the Torah and Festivals by the holy Rebbe Rabbi Dovid Twersky of Tolna. Includes two discourses delivered on the Yoma D’Hilula of his father, the holy Maggid Rabbi Mordechai of Chernobyl [leaf 46]. In his introduction, the author writes that these teachings were delivered week after week, “since G-d appointed me to speak words of uprightness, to lead the congregation of Israel in the path of righteousness, binding them with a strong and enduring bond to fulfill the will of our Father in Heaven.” The works of the holy Rebbe of Tolna are distinguished by the fact that they were not merely authored by him personally, rather than recorded by disciples, but were also prepared for publication and brought to print under his direct supervision. This was his practice with his earlier works, Magen Dovid [Zhytomyr, 1852] and Birchas Dovid [Zhytomyr, 1862], as well as with Koheles Dovid, his final work, published in the last year of his life. The holy Rebbe Rabbi Dovid of Tolna (1808–1882), founder of the Tolna Chassidic dynasty, was renowned for his great sanctity and celebrated as a miracle worker. He was the son of the holy Rebbe Rabbi Mordechai of Chernobyl and was named after his grandfather, Rabbi Dovid Leikes of Bar, one of the disciples of the Baal Shem Tov. From his youth he was known for his sharp intellect and wisdom. Upon reaching marriageable age, he became the son-in-law of Rabbi Yisroel Avrohom of Tsherni-Ostroha, son of Rabbi Zusha of Anipoli. Following his father’s passing in 1837, he assumed leadership of his followers, first in Vasilkov and later in Tolna, which quickly became one of the foremost centers of Chassidus in Ukraine. The edition opens with two title pages. On the final pages of the volume (pp. 168–172) are printed addenda, collected notes, and corrections to Magen Dovid. Lublin,   1882. First edition.
