Rabbinic signatures. - Sefer Eliyahu Mizrachi, known as Pirush HaMizrachi – the fundamental and most important commentary on Rashi. By the great rabbi of Turkey in his generation, the Chacham Bashi Reb Eliyahu Mizrachi – the Ra’em. This work is considered the central commentary on Rashi. Due to its importance, later commentators on Rashi became works that also interpret the writings of Reb Eliyahu Mizrachi. On Parshas Massei [leaf 280] appears a large engraved map of the boundaries of Eretz Yisroel – among the earliest printed maps of Eretz Yisroel. The printer adapted the introduction of Reb Yisroel, the author’s son, as though it were his own introduction. On the title page appear early ownership inscriptions: “HaKadosh Moshe Leib…?”, “HaKadosh… Landa?” On the flyleaf: “I purchased it with my own funds for the honor of my Rock and Creator, HaKadosh Moshe Tzvi Hirsch…?” “I purchased it with my own funds from my brother-in-law mentioned above, from Moreinu Reb Moshe Tzvi n”y, for the honor of my Rock and Creator, here Paris, 2 Tammuz 563 [1803], HaKadosh Moshe Leib…” A thick volume on all Five Books of the Torah, printed by Reb Yitzchak of Prossnitz. Cracow, 355 [1595], printed page-for-page according to the first edition (Venice, 345). Complete copy, fine and well preserved. Splendid antique binding, slightly worn. Collation: 320 leaves. Size: 30 × 18 cm. On the final leaves, paper restorations were made with some loss to the text. Upper margins slightly trimmed in places, occasionally affecting headings. Minor age stains. Edges of the leaves tinted in a reddish hue. Good to very good condition.
