Complete set ”Yitav Lev”, First Edition, Sighet, 5635 [1875]. Siget, “HaMeshutefes” Press, 5635 [1875]. First edition. Copy of the foremost disciple of the author of Yitav Lev — the gaon Rabbi Shlomo Yehudah Leib Tabak, author of Erech Shai and Raavad of Siget. The title page bears numerous handwritten signatures in the holy hand of: “Shlomo Leib Tabak, Dayan of the holy community of Siget and its districts, may it be established.” Also appearing on the title page are the signatures of his son, the gaon Rabbi Menachem Tabak. Within the volume [Parashas Tazria] is a handwritten gloss; the identity of the annotator is unknown. Presented here are all five parts in two handsome volumes. Five parts with five title pages. Volume I: Bereishis, Shemos. Volume II: Vayikra, Bamidbar, Devorim. The work was printed during the author's lifetime anonymously, as stated on the title page: “His servant... hidden among the vessels, humble and ashamed.” His name is alluded to in the initials of the title Yitav — Y.T.B. = Yekusiel Yehudah Teitelbaum, the manner in which he himself signed: “Yitav.” The holy gaon and Admor Rabbi Yekusiel Yehudah Teitelbaum, author of Yitav Lev (1808–1883), Av Beis Din of Siget, was among the foremost Chassidic leaders of Hungary in his generation. Son of Rabbi Elazar Nissan Teitelbaum, Av Beis Din of Siget, and son-in-law of Rabbi Moshe Dovid Ashkenazi of Tolcsva. He was the distinguished disciple of his illustrious grandfather, the author of Yismach Moshe, who drew him close and revealed to him secrets and mysteries of Torah. He was also among the disciples of the Admor Rabbi Asher Yeshayah of Ropshitz. In 1833, at approximately twenty-five years of age, he was appointed rabbi of Stropkov. Following the passing of his grandfather, he succeeded him as rabbi and Av Beis Din of Ohel. He subsequently served in Gorlice and Drohobych, and in 1858 was appointed rabbi of Siget, where he established a major yeshivah with hundreds of students. From Siget, his fame spread throughout the Jewish world, and thousands of Chassidim flocked to him seeking counsel, blessing, and salvation. He was renowned for his great sanctity and for the wonders attributed to him, and in his generation was regarded as possessing Ruach HaKodesh and insight into the thoughts of men. His celebrated works include Yitav Lev on the Torah, Yitav Ponim on the festivals, Rav Tuv, and the responsa Avnei Tzedek. The Gaon Rabbi Shlomo Yehudah Leib Tabak, Author of Erech Shai One of the foremost halachic authorities of Hungary in his era, renowned for his works Erech Shai and Teshuras Shai, and among the leading disciples of the author of Yitav Lev. He was born in Siget, in the Marmaros district, to Rabbi Pesach Tzvi Tabak. In his youth he studied in Gorlice under Rabbi Yekusiel Yehudah Teitelbaum, author of Yitav Lev, and later under Rabbi Avrohom Yehudah Schwartz, author of Kol Aryeh. He subsequently studied in the elite yeshivah of Siget. In 1858, when his teacher, the Yitav Lev, was appointed rabbi of Siget, Rabbi Tabak was appointed alongside him as chief dayan, serving in that capacity for approximately fifty years. He passed away on 11 Teves 5668 [1907] and was buried in the Jewish cemetery of Siget. Volume I: [3], 141, [2], 91 leaves. Volume II: [3], 55, [2], 80, [2], 70, [1] leaves.
