Wandsbeck, 5493 [1733]. Copy of the holy gaon Rabbi Menachem Nachum Dov Ber (“Berenyu”) of Sadigura. Admor Rabbi Menachem Nachum Dov Ber (Berenyu) of Sadigura (5603–5643), son of Admor Rabbi Shalom Yosef Friedman and grandson of the Ruzhiner Rebbe. He married the daughter of his uncle, the holy Rabbi Avraham Yaakov Friedman of Sadigura, and already during the lifetime of his father-in-law he led a circle of disciples and was regarded as a candidate for leadership of the court. He passed away in Av 5643, about one month before the passing of his great uncle, at approximately forty years of age. Rabbi Berenyu was renowned for possessing an enormous library of approximately four thousand books and manuscripts—among the largest in the Jewish world of his time—and it is related that he was able to identify his books even by touch alone. In his library he used several types of stamps, including “Kinyan Kaspi, ” “Nachalas Avosai, ” and “Menas Shai, ” indicating the source of acquisition (purchase, inheritance, or gift). This volume contains two of his well-known stamps: “Nachum Dov Ber Friedman” with a lion emblem in the center, as well as the stamp “Kinyan Kaspi.” On the verso of the title page: a faded lengthy inscription, possibly in the handwriting of Rabbi Berenyu. New and elegant binding with gilt-decorated leather spine. [1], 51 leaves. 16 cm. Minor paper restorations and worming in several leaves. Good condition.
