Elegant copy! – Chamishah Chumshei Torah Motza Pi Hashem – used for oath-taking in court, Mantua, 5545 [1785]. - Motza Pi Hashem – Chamishah Chumshei Torah – “carefully prepared according to our ability with open and closed sections in accordance with the laws of a Sefer Torah, together with the Five Megillos and Haftaros for Shabbosos and festivals according to the custom of all holy congregations.” The Chumash was printed over the course of two years, as noted in the colophon, and due to its exceptional size was generally bound in several separate volumes. For this reason, it is difficult to find complete, and certainly in a single volume. A massive thick volume, approx. 10 cm! Complete and in exceptional condition as in the present copy – exceedingly rare. Copy used for oath-taking in courts In Parshas Bechukosai, the verses of the curses were marked as the place upon which the hand was to be placed during the oath, as was customary in non-Jewish courts. At the beginning of the volume is a fine full-page copper engraving depicting the Binding of Yitzchok Avinu. Also printed at the beginning of the volume is a calendar table for the years 5545–5664 [1785–1904]. Strong, high-quality paper with wide margins. Parchment binding. Mantua, printed by “the distinguished physician… Morenu HaRav Eliezer Shlomo of Italy, ” 5543–5545 [1783–1785]. Pagination: [5], 239, 220–248; 1–79, 60–124 leaves. Size: 21.5 cm. Very good condition.
